Amanda Bossard was just out of high school when she started her studies in marine biology at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage. Bossard began her commercial seafood career in 1999, when she was hired on board the ship F/V Sunset. This 65' schooner that was converted into the role of a salmon tender is operated by Murat Aritan. Aritan has been involved in commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard was married to Aritan in 1999, and the pair have come together in fighting for their company. They are supporters of conservative and profitable renewable seafood resource management. Otolith is a wholesale direct seafood company, was established in the year 2007 by Bella Bossard (age 3), Andre Bossard (1 year old) and the Bossard's mother. Bossard had returned to Philadelphia after the birth of her two children. The name Otolith is an affectionate memory of Bossard's deep knowledge about fish biology and her husband's many connections in the seafood business. They are often separated for 5 months each time they pursue sustainable and financial goals that reflect their commitment to their independence no matter where they reside. Bossard and her son Andre and daughter Isabella are scheduled to return to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands during the harvest of wild salmon.
