Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into a family of actors and filmmakers. Both professions she's taken up. At the age of nine she was first seen in her debut film Sergio Cittis Sogni e bisogni. She played the lead role in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) as well as part of Michele Soavi's 1989 feature film The Church. In 1999 Asia made her feature-directing debut with Scarlet Diva (2000), where she played the lead actress as well as the writer for the script. It was released on May 20 the 20th of May, 2000 in Italy and around the globe. The film was released on Brooklyn, New York it was awarded an award at the Williamsburg film festival. After directing numerous music videos and giving birth, she welcomed the first of her daughters, Anna Lou.
